Is there a free title search in Queensland?

No. Titles Queensland's fee is a statutory fee that applies to everyone, owners included. A site offering a 'free QLD title search' is offering a free lookup of the lot on plan or title reference; the title, with the owner's name and what's registered on it, is still paid.

Free tools for Queensland properties

Queensland Globe shows the land, not the owner. Owner names are only on the title.

  • Queensland Globe: the State's free online map. Search by address or by lot on plan (BUP, GTP, RP and SP plans all work) and it shows the property boundary, along with many other map layers.
  • Your rates notice: most councils print the lot on plan on rates notices.
  • Brisbane FloodWise Property Report: free from Brisbane City Council for Brisbane properties, with estimated flood levels and minimum habitable floor levels.
  • Gold Coast mapping: the City of Gold Coast's Development.i and City Plan interactive maps are free.

Can I search for a Queensland title by name for free?

No. Titles Queensland's fee schedule has no general search by owner name, and we don't offer one either. A title search starts from the property: you need its address, lot on plan or title reference.

What's the cheapest way to get a Queensland title?

Buy directly from Titles Queensland for A$25.71 (no GST), online through its shop, by phone or by post. Approved distributors that serve lawyers and conveyancers pay a lower rate, but that rate isn't open to the public.

  1. 1Get the lot on plan from your rates notice or Queensland Globe.
  2. 2Order a Current Title Search from Titles Queensland.
  3. 3Check that the title reference and lot on plan on the result match the property you meant.
  4. 4Read it with our guide on how to read a Queensland title.

When is paying more worth it in Queensland?

Our Queensland title search is A$79. For now, Queensland orders are the title PDF only: the plain-English summary is coming to Queensland but isn't available yet. So in Queensland the difference buys convenience, not explanation:

  • Search by street address, with the lot on plan and title reference shown before you pay.
  • Every title listed for unit complexes and acreage on several lots, so you pick the right one.
  • Nothing to pay if the title can't be delivered.
If you already have the lot on plan and know it's the right one, Titles Queensland direct is cheaper. Title Registry is independent, not Titles Queensland.

What won't a Queensland title tell you?

A title shows ownership and registered interests. It doesn't show zoning, flood levels, approvals or building work. Those come from your council: free maps for a first look, and paid council property searches or certificates when you need something formal, which can take several business days.

Common questions

Is Queensland Globe free?

Yes. It's free to use and shows the lot on plan and boundaries for any property, but not the owner or anything registered on the title.

How much does Titles Queensland charge for a title search?

A$25.71 for the public, with no GST.

Do owners get a free copy of their title in Queensland?

No. Owners pay the same fee as anyone else.

Where do I find a Queensland title reference?

On earlier title searches and conveyancing papers. If you only have the lot on plan, that's enough to find the title.

Can I see who owns a Queensland property online for free?

No. The registered owners' names are only on the title, which carries the Titles Queensland fee.

Why does your Queensland order have no summary?

Not yet. Plain-English summaries are coming to Queensland titles; until then you get the official PDF only.
