Is there a free title search in Tasmania?
No. Land Tasmania charges A$39.20 for each title search, the same for owners as for anyone else. Anyone can search the register without proving who they are, but the folio text, which names the owners and lists mortgages and easements, is a paid document.
LISTmap: free maps, boundaries and title references
LISTmap is theLIST's free map viewer. Land Tasmania says around 400 layers are free to the public, including property boundaries, roads, council boundaries, reserves and contours, plus aerial imagery for the whole state and Google Street View. Click a land parcel and the results box shows its details, including its property ID and its volume and folio.
That volume and folio is the title reference you need to buy the title on theLIST. LISTmap doesn't show the owners or anything registered on the title.
How to buy the title on theLIST

- 2Open Properties and Titles and search by volume and folio, property ID or address.
- 3Check the result matches the property, choose Select Products, and add the Folio Text and Folio Plan to your cart.
- 4Pay A$39.20 and download the PDFs. theLIST keeps them available to download again for 14 days.
Paid theLIST products that aren't a title
theLIST also sells a Property Report, which shows the two most recent government valuations and, for sales since 1982, the two most recent sales. Copies of registered mortgages, easements and covenants are sold as scanned dealings for A$39.20 each. They're useful, but none of them replaces the title, and theLIST says its products are for personal or internal business use.
