Is there a free title search in the NT?

No. Every title search carries a Land Titles Office fee, owners included. The owners' names and address, and the dealings on the land such as mortgages and easements, are only on the title.

NR Maps: free parcel maps

NR Maps is the NT Government's free web mapping tool. When you open it, land parcels (the cadastre) are the active layer, so you can search for and query a parcel straight away. You can print an A4 or A3 map as a PDF and export query results.

It works best on a computer: the NT Government says it isn't currently suitable for mobile devices. It's a map of parcels, not the title.

How do NT title fees work?

NT search fees are set in revenue units under the Registration Regulations, and the value of a unit changes each July. From 1 July 2026 a revenue unit is A$1.49, and fees are rounded down. A search using remote access is 20 units, about A$29.00. A search on Land Titles Office equipment, or one done for you by staff, is 29 units, about A$43.

Check the current fee on the NT Government's search page before you order, as published figures can lag behind the July change.

What's the cheapest way to get an NT title?

The NT Government says an online search is the quickest and most affordable. You can also search by phone, by email or in person. Start at the NT Government's land title search page.

  1. 1Find the lot and town in NR Maps.
  2. 2Search online through the Land Titles Office's title search, using the lot and town rather than the volume and folio, which may not return the current title.
  3. 3Pay the fee and download the result.
  4. 4Read it with our guide on how to read an NT title.

When is paying more worth it in the NT?

Our NT title search is A$89. You start from the street address, see the lot, town and title before you pay, and get a one-page plain-English summary with the title. The Title + Full Report (A$119) explains every entry. Most orders arrive within minutes; some are processed by hand and take up to 1 business day. If the title can't be delivered, you pay nothing.

If you're comfortable finding the lot yourself, the NT's own online search is cheaper. Title Registry is an independent service, not the NT Land Titles Office.

Common questions

Is NR Maps free?

Yes. It's free to use, though the NT Government says it isn't currently suitable for mobile devices.

Does NR Maps show who owns a property?

It's a map of land parcels, not the title. To see the registered owners and their address, you need a title search.

How much is an NT title search?

About A$29.00 for an online search, or about A$43 if staff search for you. Fees change each July.

Why search by lot and town instead of volume and folio?

The NT Government notes that a volume and folio search may not give the current title. The lot and town is the safer starting point.

Can I get an ILIS account for cheaper searches?

ILIS accounts are for industry users, such as conveyancers, legal firms and banks, doing 10 or more searches a week.

Do owners get a free copy of their title?

No. Owners pay the same fee as anyone else.
